Theater Workshops Open for Students!

Dear Students,
                You are invited to gather on August 19 and 20th for a series of workshops designed to learn more about the art of theater. Although they will touch on the fall musical, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, these workshops are neither fall musical specific, nor are they required for participation in the musical. Each workshop will be an opportunity to learn about an area of interest, improve your skills and get excited about the year to come at the Loft Stage. All students grades 6 and up can participate so please pass this information on to anyone who might be interested.
When: August 19 and 20 from 9:00am-5:00pm with a lunch break at noon.
Where: the Loft Stage
The tentative workshop schedule is as follows:
August 19                                 
9:00am-12:00pm- Dance for the Stage Part I 
·         Learn more about the world of movement for the theater. Alyssa will combine information with dance instruction AND an individual evaluation to help you prepare for the strongest dance audition of your life. Dress for movement.
10:00am-5:00pm-Musical Auditioning   
·         Students will have the opportunity to register for a fifteen minute slot in which they should prepare a song or two from the musical theater. CD accompaniment is preferred. We will have time for a specific individualized evaluation of your audition as well as some tips for improvement. Students participating can still do the dance workshop. J
1:00-2:00pm- “Crazy for Character” -Building Character for the Stage
·         Marcie will walk students through techniques designed for building character for the stage. This session promises to be a great learning opportunity and lots of fun.
2:00pm-4:00pm- The Art of Improv
·         Learn more about the specialized world of improve and hone your ability to think on your feet as an actor. This is a chance to work with a professional improvisational actor for two hours of training.
 
 
August 20
9:00am-12:00pm Dance for the Stage Part II
·         Continue with Alyssa for the opportunity to get individual feedback on your dance audition. Students who are planning to audition for Beauty will want to hear what she has to say!
11:00am-12:00pm- Stage Costuming 
·         How does a costume shape character? This is for actors and techies alike and will give both the opportunity to understand what to think about in costuming and wearing a costume. Students will be able to participate and still do the dance workshop.
1:00pm-3:00pm- Professional Stage Makeup
·         Professional makeup artist Robert Mallo will join us for a demonstration of how to approach stage makeup. Don’t miss it!
